TOW week 2: The purpose of blog comments
Blog comments are a key part of blogging. Blogging is a great way to tell the world how your feeling and what you believe in. New York Times reports that kids alone spend 7 1/2 hours online daily so everything you post is exposed if you allow it to be. Blogs are useful to anyone and are a blank canvas for the user to create on. College students living far from their home town can create blogs to keep friends and relatives up to date. Political groups or government officials can use them to voice opinions and updates. Anything is possible. Blog comments are important because they provide feedback to whoever is posting information.
Receiving and evaluating comments keeps the online blogging community active. It is possible to look up blogs by using key words or phrases to find what your interested in. If you find a blog that you particularly enjoyed or have a counter argument against, don’t be afraid to speak up! Not only can users comment on blogs, but other users can respond to comments. Your opinion can inform, persuade, or even upset another user; thus opening the topic up for more discussion.
When writing blog comments or comment responses there are a few things to keep in mind. Comments should be relevant to the topic, credible, and professional. In order for a comment to be relevant to the post you should respond to the matter at hand, as not to cause confusion an drive the conversation completely off- topic. Credible blog comments don’t always need citation but information should be truthful, otherwise gossip or slander could be a problem. Lastly, blog comments should remain professional. Outright lies, distasteful or hateful language, and harassment are all disrespectful. If your comments are truthful and relevant, responding to a blog can also help your own blog gain recognition.

I actually never thought about blogging with your hometown community. This alone is an awesome idea for using a blog. Not only does it help people in a community keep in touch, but it may also provide networking opportunities for graduates from that area. I actually had a friend who went to University of South Carolina and his family lived in Alabama, so he decided to create a blog in order to keep in touch. He posted pictures of events he attended and even a calender of events so that if anyone wanted to visit they would know a good time. In doing all of this, his friends who were not yet in a college became interested in attending his university.
So as you said, the uses for blogs are endless and with a relevent, proffesional blog, who knows what you can accomplish!
I like how you included that it keeps the blogging community active. Instead of just reading and agreeing or disagreeing in your head- it’s a great way to spark an honest conversation. I love to sometimes take the opposite side of the seesaw, just to see how well a person can defend their rights, plus- it opens minds to other opinions other than their own. Much like going to college in a place you have NEVER been before. What a way to see things differently, ya know?
I really like how you included actual facts to support your argument. Your word choice was also impressive. I agree completely, with your point of view also. Overall a well written post.
